don’t trust snape (or: read the fucking EULA dumbass)
Chrome automatically installs an updater that runs whenever your computer is idle.
Removing Chrome will not remove Google Update, even if you no longer have any software from Google installed on your PC.
- Uninstall Chrome.
- GoogleUpdate.exe is located in <drive>:\Documents and Settings<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Update. You will probably need to kill the process before deleting the file (or Google folder, in my case).
- Delete the Google Update Task. (<drive>:\Windows\Tasks)
- Run msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck Google Update.
- Delete the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key from the Registry.
- If you do not have any other software from Google on your PC, feel free to delete the Google registry key folders from HKCU\Software (and I believe HKU\Software as well)
