Apparently the NaNoWriMo Noveling Journal came in Saturday’s mail. Goodness, what to say about it…
- It’s 99 sheets, lined front and back. (Yes, I counted them twice—and then numbered them.)
- The front and back covers are very stiff cardboard. Great news for anyone who treats their notebooks roughly.
- The ruling is quite wide at 3/8”. The photo with the two different pieces of paper is of the Noveling Journal versus a 81/4” × 57/8” Black n’ Red notebook, which is only a tiny bit narrower than standard wide ruling. (8 mm ➡ 5/16” vs 11/32”.)
- It’s far more fountain pen friendly than I expected. Minimal feathering, negligible show-through and only a few spots of bleed-through where I hesitated.
- The paper is lightly textured. It looks and feels recycled. It’s whiter than expected, but not bright bleached white.
Overall, it’s a very nice notebook. But as someone who typically uses 5mm grids, cracking it open to find such a wide ruling was quite an unpleasant surprise. If it’s offered next year, I won’t be buying it unless it comes in a narrower ruling…college ruled, preferably.
